How can you know that?? I still cannot see any of the Time After Time ONGs!

Can mscha.org be blocked by your computer or network?

My favorite thing is how we still have new OTTers revealing themselves. (And, all that other stuff.)

It seems to be fixed now!

The only way to fix this is to get an OTTified version. It must be done.

It will be called 1190.

Hmm, I want to do something clever with numbers but I also want to do something involving molpies and grapevines so... maybe I'll need two different virginsversions.

I would imagine it should merge 2s, 5s, 7s and 17s until you get 1190.

Well, there's always 2147483648 - a version on a 8x8 grid (and you can set a different smaller size).
If you want a pretty "wait for it" experience, set the auto mode "corner" and watch the numbers dance (manually push it down if it gets stuck - which it almost never does). You'd probably get your first 131072 within a nopix, and it only goes up from there... slowly.
Important note: it is really addictive. Seriously. Be warned. (I don't even know what to compare it with, especially in its category; by my experience, the only two things that are anywhere near as addictive are that site where you watch a bunch of polygons evolving to a picture, and that site with planets that orbit in correctly-proportioned periods and make ridiculously pleasant music - I wouldn't dare link to either).
There are two films that I particularly like.
One of them is a science-fiction dramatic comedy involving a boy who accidentally travelled in time. Extremely popular when it originally came out in 1985, it retains a major cult following to this day.
The other one, of course, is Back to the Future.

yappobiscuits wrote:Also, what in Randall's name is an "animal"?

Well, y'see, when I started writing the Dark Lord on NP640, the word "molpy" had been coined only 19 newpages earlier, only one (or two?) had been seen so far, and it wasn't yet clear what the molpy was. So I postulated that Molpies were a specific type of creature sent by the Dark Lord to follow Megball. So, 'molpy' has a specific meaning in the Dark Lord which is different than the specific meaning that later developed in the OTT. So, I was forced to use the word 'animal', a heretical word that was replaced by 'molpy' in the OTT, but unfortunately necessary in the Dark Lord.
Not unfortunate, but, cool. So much of the OTT is stamped with Time. No, we are not Timeless (or timeless) here, but instead full of Time (time). To understand something fully one must experience it in real Time or at least must blitz so as to experience it in "real" Time. I love thinking of the molpies again as so mysterious we didn't even know they were animals. Which, now, I'm not sure they are "animals" within your story. I'll have to rethink this stuff while reading your next chapter. ^_^

OTT: Now Version

What would it be like if the Now thread developed into the OTT, with a unique culture and vocabulary?
azule

The lack of personability and multitude of global divisions in Now would mean a very different outcome for a Now OTT than Time OTT.

One major distinction would be the OTTifyable characters. Instead of Megan and Cueball, we get The Levant and Most Australian Cities, or Levmac. Levmac shippers would take a more literal stance. Their desire would be to see The Levant ship more to MAC and vice versa, for trade or tourism.

Image

A similarity would be the confusion about what world Now is taking place. So far the theory is that this is taking place on an Azimuthal Equidistant Earth. The Earth may even be flat, according to some, whom the detractors call Flatters. Yet others believe this is just a comic style world not based in reality. These represent an embarrassing minority.

To the adherents, also known as Novians, there would not exist the heresy that is Daylight Saving Time.

All time would be in 15 minute increments. Any posts outside of the 15th minute would be shunned. All OTTifications would occur within 8 hours (local time), with 10 hours (also local time) where they would be banned, each day.

Seeing information on a heretical Earth spreading throughout schools, Novians would petition for all textbooks to include only Now facts on the Earth.

Their long term plans would be to see the correct Earth terraformed (or more correctly, Noviforming) onto a nearby asteroid and to colonize it.

Note: this is not based on the current thread, but only based on comic #1335.

Actually I wrote that post after manually extending it out to 6x6. It wasn't too hard, just tedious. If I ever want to extend further I'd definitely use javascript-generated html and css! Three more to go. Doing them in order. Lots of OTTer's block on altering them in such a way as to make sense and keep the meter close. It doesn't help that the musical is very personal, and without making it about the romance of two OTTers, there isn't a good direct correlation.

It makes people's names easy to see, especially when you are referring to something they said or did, but either don't have anything to quote, or don't want to quote them (while redundancy is molpish, too much redundant redundancy can make it harder to follow a thread). Since red (and its RELATED flavors) are frowned upon by the mods, blue is the only clear choice left. Green also works, but doesn't show up as well. (At least not on my monitor). I was one of the early adopters of this; sometimes I also prefaced the name with @, but don't do that much any more. Also, welcome back!

BlueCrab wrote:It does make the names a lot more visible, I just keep wondering why they're linked and clicking on them :)
Uh oh, you may have just started something!

Welcome Cloudy_the_Conqueror! Great to see you here! And happy Timiversary!

edit: Neil_Boekend - many browsers allow you to control styles and colors, and you can probably set yours to disregard all colors and display everything in black. Check it out.

Jose

I always used blue because it is the same color as the default weblink. That way, I didn't think it would be more disrupting than placing a link. It certainly helps to set aside names when I don't feel justified in doing a full quote. That way, it's likely to catch the attention of the person I am replying to. I wonder if there is another color that would be closer to black, but still stand out enough for that. Let's see...is this better?

And in reference to the madness.... Once it starts, I may just make all of my posts in quote boxes. it's the only way to be sure. sure of what, I don't know, but I think the quote boxes are exempt from the exemption.

As far as using blue I actually think that colour is better. It metaphorically represents a link while still not giving me the urge to click it :)
However simply making the name bold is just as easy and removes the problems that people have with colours (Yellow is usually a bad choice in my opinion).
But I like the variety of posting styles, use whatever you want. I don't usually highlight usernames but if I wasn't naturally lazy by naturen I would creatively represent usernames by a series of abstract pictures every time I refer to them.

Well, the alternative is actually making it a link, such as this: @adnapemit
Would that be better?

Also, is it odd that we are actually looking forward to the madness time?

Well, IMHO, yes. Apparently the Madness is a little fun for the moderators. Looking forward to it to me is like being envious that someone else will have a new toy for about a week and that we can't share. Personally, I think that as long as someone else's fun is not more than a mild annoyance to others, I don't really care that they are having fun. Of course, if they have fun I can share and enjoy, so much the better. Rephrased: if I can share in the fun, so much the better. So, for example, if they would take the OTT-wiki and created filters based on it, causing ALL OF THE XKCD FORUMS to talk like 'we' do, I would be very much amused. If it would cause all of my posts to become incomprehensible (more than usual, that is), it would not be much fun for me. Most of my contributions are textbased, so any change to what I write has an immediate impact, especially when it comes to carefully crafted ottifications.

Honestly, it's more like seeing that someebody else wnet to the practical joke store, and being excited to see what they do with their new purchases.

it's a wierd kind of masochism made more so by the fact that we honestly out stranged them last year. to the point where I wouldn't so much say we are the children of the madness(for some reason, that always makes me think we are some kind of X-men team, probably because of the similarity to "children of the Atom") as we are the that which fights monsters by becoming more monstrous still. In that we fought back against the madness by becoming completely nuts. and never, ever stopping.

USA, United States, Germany, Brazil, Russia, Spain

So it works if you hit preview, but when you hit submit, the filters hit.
However, if you copy the stuff that changed in the preview/quote box, that seems to work...
EEUU, Estados Unidos, Germany, Brazil, Россия, Spain

First off, can someone point me to a list of mips and xips of the wip, like Randix? I feel like this is importantish.

Next, a somewhat seaish amount of PastPost responses:

Wait, do blitzers get basemented, or do they end up somewhere else? I suppose one should ask macraw83hexa - xe just recently returned from a major blitzing break (or so I've heard anyway).
I suppose I did spend time in the basement, somehow without realizing it. I somewhat remember molpying up and then coming to learn of the basement later, but how does that even work?

@macraw83 I'd almost forgotten about Firefly Online and the username I reserved, but I did briefly think of it the other wip, so it's funny to see it brought up again.

@azule as mentioned elsewhere, my 300th post thing had nothing to do with my sig (which included the dogecoin thing long before that milestone).

Curious, in real-time it was fast in the OTC and really fast in the OTT.

Well... I suppose that back then y'all were likely measuring progress in terms of newpix, which I guess makes sense when experiencing it live, since they were tied to Outsider-time. And tangentially from that, I would expect that OTT speed was a measure of posts per newpix, or essentially a measure of difficulty of ketchupping and/or staying in the Present.

But Blitzers like me measure progress in terms of NewPages, and OTC speed in newpix per NewPage. My point there was that the OTC content-per-newpix rate was suddenly orders of magnitude higher than it had been, but also that I was getting fewer newpix per NewPage (at times less than one on average). I guess what I was speaking to was the Time dilation of the OTT during that period, or something.
